About Our Company
Dr. Lorena Michel Psy.D.
I am from San Francisco, proud to be a first-generation native, and I had the privilege of growing up in a Mexican American household that embraced the richness of two distinct cultures. Spanish was spoken at home, and English became a part of my life through school. My curiosity about human thought and behavior has been a lifelong interest, leading me to pursue a career in the helping profession.
With over two decades of experience dedicated to serving BIPOC and Latinx communities, I’ve built a career rooted in cultural understanding. My journey began with a focus on Latinx populations during my doctoral program, where I conducted research on the coping styles of immigrants.
During my tenure with San Mateo County, I took charge of a subclinic within the psychiatry department, focusing on a biopsychosocial approach to address the needs of Latinx populations. Building on this foundation, I assumed the role of Behavioral Medicine Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, where I collaborated with medical professionals and provided brief treatment sessions (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
In recognition of my dedication and contributions to the Latinx community, I was honored with the Vision Con Pasion Award by the Kaiser Permanente Latinx Association in 2019.
Establishing a private psychotherapy practice in 2010, I’ve successfully guided clients through a spectrum of emotional challenges, spanning anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, stress, trauma, and chronic illness.
My commitment to diverse populations is a driving force, reflected in my volunteer work with the Chicana Latina Foundation. My unique blend of experience, cultural sensitivity, and a passion for healing continues to guide my work in empowering individuals to overcome adversity and embrace wellbeing.
